The Musical Team & GSB Youth Band- Spotlight

At Gosport Solent Brass we are busy developing the band in several areas. Our immediate focus is to nurture the beginnings of our youth band and the preparation of our contests and concerts during the Spring and Summer of 2019. We are fortunate to draw on the talents of not just our MD, Colin Garner but also utilise the talents of our more experienced players.

The musical team affords us the ability to strengthen and develop the youth band and senior band through sectional training, one-to-one tuition and associate MD skills. This enables the band to grow and adapt, ensuring that we continue to improve the quality of our performances and professionalism of our members.

We really do encourage our supporters to ask if this is something younger members of their friends and family can benefit from. For example, Is a niece looking to learn the drums? Chris Buck’s experience would be invaluable. Is a grandson looking to build on their performance skills? Tracey and Jamie will look to help any member when they can.

The Youth band is FREE to all junior players (aged 10-18) and where we can, we offer free instrument hire.

Please contact us to find out more about the youth band.

A New Year and many fresh projects for GSB.

The band is busy preparing for our first time in the 3rd Section of the West of England Regionals. The piece this year is FIRST SUITE IN Eb, written by Gustav Holst.

We have recently also joined up with Brass Band England with the intention of building on our Youth Band. More on that soon.

We have many exciting events this year related to the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings along with Summer Fetes and other engagements.

Thank you for your continual support and Happy New Year from Gosport Solent Brass.

West of England 4th Section Champions!

The Band traveled to Torquay at the weekend in order to compete against 14 other Brass Bands in the West of England 4th Section Regionals.  We are absolutely delighted to announce that we came 1st! As you can imagine we are all over the moon with the result! Lots of cheering, crying and celebrating from everyone involved!

Our next step is to compete in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on 15th September in Cheltenham.  Bring it on!

We came... We saw... We won!

In preparation for our big annual outing to the South West Regionals Contest on 11th March, the Band recently traveled to Woodstock (not the well known music festival!) in Oxfordshire and took part in the ODBBA Winter Contest.

We competed in the Fourth Section against six other Bands, and we're very pleased to announce that we won! To top off this winning victory, our "icing on the cake" Peter Ryan won the "Best Instrumentalist" on Soprano Cornet!

Pit stop on the way home for the coach, and also for a well deserved celebratory beer or two for the players!

"Fanfare for Gosport" Recording Session

The Band took part in a recording session at the weekend performing and recording Kirsty Devaney's musical composition, "Fanfare for Gosport".

The Band had performed the first public performance of "Fanfare for Gosport" last Summer, and we teamed up with Kirsty and the "New Dimensions" team to produce a recording of her fantastic piece.

"Fanfare for Gosport" acknowledges and celebrates the heritage and people of Gosport, and each movement of the piece reflects an aspect of our town. The soundtrack and video are being produced now, so watch this space!

Thank you to Kirsty and Tammy for giving the band the opportunity to take part in your project, and we would like to wish you both every success for the future!
